Double Knitted Vest Knitting Pattern

With this project we wanted to explore the limits of what double knitting could become when combined with ambitious colour work, thoughtful construction, and use. The goal was never simply to create a vest. We wanted to create a piece that felt modern, distinctive and unique.
The focus through the countless swatches was to find the balance between durability, comfort and a fit that feels natural within a modern wardrobe. A garment that can be layered throughout the seasons and become a reliable companion rather than a special-occasion knit.

Double knitting has always fascinated us. There is something extraordinary about a fabric that is equally beautiful on both sides. So it was time to translate that quality into a vest for him.

The beaver has been one of the guiding inspirations behind Grivette Design from the very beginning. Beavers are among nature's most remarkable engineers. Through patience, skill and persistence, they shape entire landscapes. They create environments where ecosystems can recover, thrive and renew themselves. In many ways they embody the values we admire most such as craftsmanship, purpose, resilience and care for something larger than oneself.

We decided to go on full contrast for this one but can't wait to see how each knitter interprets the design through their own colour palette.
From a technical perspective this is one of the most advanced projects we have designed to date. Every row of the colour work is unique. This means that there is always something new happening on your needles. We found the process surprisingly addictive while knitting our samples as each row reveals a little more of the final image.

Front Edge Plackets for the button band from Wrong Side. You can attach buttons on both sides to make the Wrong Side work as a Right Side.
You will be combining garment construction with the unique rhythm of double knitting while simultaneously following the colour work charts. It requires focus, but we have worked hard to make the pattern as intuitive and approachable as possible.
If this is your first experience with double knitting, expect a challenge but also expect to learn an incredible amount along the way. Every technique used throughout the pattern is supported with detailed video tutorials in our Studio, allowing you to build confidence as you progress.
