ITALIAN 1X1 CAST ON

Creates a seamless edge that flows naturally into 1x1 rib stitch.

Start by pulling a tail of yarn from the ball long enough to cast on the number of stitches specified in the pattern.

Hold the needle in your right hand, the yarn with the tail over your index finger and the working yarn over your thumb. This forms a triangle shape with the yarn and fingers. Place the needle inside this triangle and up towards the thread.

For the first knit stitch, bring the needle under the working yarn on your thumb, up in the triangle shape and over the tail on your index finger. Then pull by moving the needle under both threads.

For the second purl stitch, bring the needle over the tail yarn on your index finger, under both yarns and up over the working yarn on your thumb. Then pull through by moving the needle in to the triangle shape and up behind the index finger.

Repeat the knit vs purl stitch as many times directed in the pattern.
